Semax 10mg is the synthetic heptapeptide Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro, a structural analogue of the ACTH(4–10) fragment in which the C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extends the peptide’s stability against enzymatic degradation. It is supplied as a lyophilized powder in a single sealed vial containing 10mg net peptide. Each lot is analyzed by HPLC for purity and by mass spectrometry for identity; the certificate of analysis for the current lot is shown in the product images and in the COA library.

Semax research background

Semax was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the 1980s–90s as part of a programme exploring fragments of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) that retain activity at melanocortin-related sites without the hormone’s endocrine effects. The Pro-Gly-Pro tail was added to slow proteolysis, and the resulting heptapeptide became one of the most-studied synthetic melanocortin fragments in the Russian literature.

Published laboratory work has examined Semax in rodent and cell models, including its effects on expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its receptor TrkB in rat hippocampus (Dolotov et al., Brain Research, 2006), transcriptome changes in rat brain, and interactions with the melanocortin system. These are findings in animals and cells and should not be read as describing effects in humans.

Analytically, the N-terminal methionine is oxidation-sensitive; lots should be stored cold and protected from light, and HPLC methods should be capable of resolving the methionine-sulfoxide impurity.

Handling and storage: Lyophilized powder in a sealed, nitrogen-flushed vial. Store at −20 °C for long-term storage or at 2–8 °C for short-term storage, protected from light and moisture. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening to prevent condensation.
